Day Two in Ethiopia, one of many Demeras tonight for Meskel.

Demera is a ceremonial bonfire honoring the finding of the true cross by Queen Eleni. She was told to light a fire that would lead her to the cross, and the smoke from that fire revealed its location.

Day Three in Ethiopia, feeling very much in-between two worlds.

It’s interesting to see how I’m engaging with my ancestral homeland when I still feel a bit separated from it.

Day Four in Ethiopia, walking around the neighborhood of Kazanchis before heading home.

Day Five in Ethiopia, taking a cab to Kazanchis from my aunt’s house in eastern Addis.

Day Six in Ethiopia, driving around the city taking in the people and views.

Day Nine in Ethiopia, enjoying my last full day in the country before heading back to the US. I got to visit Bishoftu, also known as Debre Zeit, and spent a lot of time around the lake. I visited a family friend’s resort and saw this guy paddling out to go fishing.
